Okay, the pre-requistes:
SpeedGuide.net's SG TCP Optimizer
You'll need this first. This program modifies
your registry to increase your internet speed.
Lvllord's Patch
You'll need these to increase TCP connections
of your computer. (More on this later)
Step 1: Modifying your LAN Properties.
a) Go to Start>Network Connections.
b) Right Click>Properties on your main Internet connection.
c) Make the following changes: [Unselect everything except "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"

Okay, so your Internet Speed has increased ten-fold after applying the tweaks already present on this site.. but what about download speed? Well, I wont try and go into how internet speed and download speed are co-related – because, if you're like me, you'll be more interested in better download speeds rather than knowing the history. Wokay! Without further ado, lets start:
The trick to get better speeds is to get a download manager. Already heard of them? Or already using them? No problem. From my internet experience, DAP ( Download Accelerator Plus) specializes in giving you optimum download speeds.
For example, a normal FireFox download manager gives me speeds ranging from 10-20 kbps (max) since I'm on a 128 kbps connection :

Huhuhu, Hungry for more tweaks? Remember I told you before – this site has truckloads of 'em! Here's another one.. to take the 20% bandwidth Windows is stealing from you. You'll love it! This guide teaches you to counter one of the main problems any Internet User may face - Slow Internet Speed! As simple it sounds, its as simple to increase it!
1) Go to Start>Run. Type in “gpedit.msc” (Without the quotes, duh!). (This opens a “Group Policy” window. If you're like me, you wont be interested in what it actually is, but what it can actually do for you.. Right? Anyways..)
2) Follow this path: Local Computer Policy>Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>Network>QoS Packet Scheduler>Limit Reservable Bandwidth>. If it's disabled or not configured, change the settings like the one below:
Like the above screenshot indicates, select "Enabled" and set the Bandwitdth limit to 0%.
Why did we do that? Simple, like I said before, Windows is silently eating 20% of your bandwidth. I emphasize on the word “silently” - The explain TAB of the above window proves it. This is what it says:
